STENNING. On Saturday Jan 30th, 1897 at Hobart Willian Stenning, after a long and painful illness, in the 82nd year of his age. Funeral will leave his late residence 140 Harrington Street, on Thursday Afternoon, at 3 O'clock, for Cornelian Bay Cemetry.
Convict number 5384 William Stenning(s) was transported to Van Diemans Land for 7 years on the Eden 2. He was tried in Surrey, St Mary Newington on 7 February 1842 for stealing wearing apparel. The Jurors for our Lady the Queen upon their Oath present that Harriet Goddard late of the Parish of Dunsfold in the County of Surrey Spinster and William Stenning late of the same place labourer on the eighth day of January in the fifth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Defender of the Faith with Force and Arms at the parish aforesaid in the county aforesaid three sheets of the value of nine shillings two shirts of the value of two shillings and nineteen yards of Calico of the value of nine shillings of the goods and chattels of one George Pincott before then feloniously stolen taken and carried away feloniously did receive and have, she the said Harriet Goddard then and there well knowing the said goods and chattels to have been stolen taken and carried away, against the form of the statute in such case made and provided and against the Peace of our said Lady the Queen her Crown and Dignity
The Jurors for our Lady the Queen upon their Oath present that William Stenning late of the Parish of Dunsfold in the County of Surrey and Harriet Goddard late of the same place Spinster on the twnety first day of December in the fifth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Defender of the Faith with Force and Arms at the parish aforesaid in the county aforesaid the dwelling house of George Pincott there situate feloniously did break and enter and three sheets of the value of nine shillings two shirts of the value of two shillings and nineteen yards measure of Calico of the value of nine shillings one bag of the value oftwo pence and three yards measure of sheeting of the value of three shillings of the goods and chattels of the said George Pincott in the said dwelling house then and there being found then and there in the said dwelling house feloniously did steal take and carry away against the Peace of our said Lady the Queen her Crown and Dignity

Notes for ROSE CONNOR:
Rose was a 24 year old House Servant from Liverpool when she was transported to Van Diemans Land. She was tried in Lancaster on 7 February 1843 and received a sentence of 7 years transportation. She was single, Roman Catholic and had one child. Rose was able to read a little.Her convict record states that she was apprenticed to Jas. Cunningham, the father of her child with whom she lived for 2 years. Ship character was good

William Stennings aged 40, Ag Labourer, his wife Mary aged 40, Daughters Susan 20, Emily 18, Mary 16, Matilda 2, and sons George 12, Thomas 10, Charles 8 & Lewis 6.
Was known as "Captian". Maybe ex army as was given a land grant at Franklyn in Tasmania.
