William DINES , Sr

DINES: From the Past to the Present
Willian DINES arrived in New York on July 30, 1834 From England, Countyof Kent on the ship, Barque Trusty sailing from London England. The shipmanifest also list what I presume to be his parents, William and AnnDines, brothers and sister: Robert, Edward, James, Ferdinand, Anna, andRichard. William's name appears 4 names below the above names and his ageof 21 years old fits accordingly with the other children. The abovefamily settled in Schroepple, Fulton and Volney township in OswegoCounty, New York. I have pictures of family members from these townshipsfrom the mid 1880's.

William Dines married Isabel Woolley, the daughter of John Woolley andElizabeth Lawson, in 1835 somewhere in New York. William and Isabele hada daughter names Betsey Ann, born 1836 in New York.

William and Isabel Dines migrated to Ohio and first settled inBentleyville and Chagrin Falls,(located very close to Russell Ohio),after their arrival from New York State in 1838, according to the Book ofPioneer Women, Cuyahoga County, Ohio of 1840.
In 1841 the townships of Chagrin Falls and Russell located in Ohioexchange portions of land. Chagrin Falls is now located in CuyhaogaCounty Ohio, Russell is in Geauga County.

William Dines Sr., first purchased 1 acre of land in South RussellTownship, Ohio (Chagrin Falls at that time) on January 12th, 1846. Thisland was purchased from Christopher Edic, and recorded in Vol, 37, page86, R9,T7,Tract 2, lot 3. He then sells this piece of property to DetroitBurnett on February 26th, 1849., Vol. 41, page 180. He then purchasedproperty from Danial I. Coit, for 25 acres on November 15th, 1856, Vol.52, page 603,. R9, T7, tract 1, section2, Lot 5. He thens sells thisproperty to Ansel Scott, on October 25th, 1867 for $100.00, Vol. 66 page293. This land transaction is also recorded again on July 6th, 1871 for$200.00 in Vol. 69, page 407.

At this point in time I know that his son Joseph Elijah Dines purchasedproperty in Solon Center Township, Michigan in 1867 and 1874. Joseph andPermelia moved to Solon Center about 1863. In 1876 I know that WilliamDines Sr., his sons, William M. Dines, Phillip Dines and Joseph Dines allowned property next to or close by one another in

Solon Center Township, in section number 28.
I believe that William Dines Sr. owned property in both Ohio and Michiganat the same time. I do know that the Dines family moved or visited backand forth between the two states.

William Dines Sr. then purchased property in Russell, Ohio from FredrickBoss on March 31st, 1875. this seems to be the same piece of property hehad owned earlier, the Recorders book shows the same tract, section, andLot number, only the Vol. number 75, page 319 seem to be different.
