Audrey M. Johnson was taken from her mother Permelia ArmintaDines-Johnson by the state of Michigan when she was 6 months old and putinto a orphanage in La Pear, Michigan. she went to live with the Krugfamily, and was adopted in 1924, by Amos and Elizabeth Krug, from BattleCreek Michigan.
They were a wealthy family, but disinherited Audrey because she marriedat the young age of 17 to a man named Robinson. The rest of the Johnsonchildren were put in the Coldwater Orphanage, and adoption papers arefiled in Calhoun County Court House in Marshall Michigan. Audrey hadpapers re filed in Lansing Michigan. Martha Jane Dines-Davis, was veryinstrumental in having her her sister Permelia Arminta Dines-Johnsonchildren taken away from her and husband Louis Johnson in 1913 becauseArminta was not taking care of her children. Lewis Johnson was 23 yearsolder than Permelia.
Audrey was reunited with her brother Lawrence Johnson in 1941 when shewas 28 years old. This was the first time she had any knowledge of anybrothers or sisters.
Lawrence Johnson was in same orphanage, but ran away.
Andrew Johnson was in same orphanage, but went to live with Lonnie Davis
Lewis Johnson was in same orphanage, but was sent to prison for killingone of the teachers.No mention of sister Ruth in letter
