Joseph Wooley, the son of John Wooley Sr.. settled in Russell, GeaugaCounty, Ohio around 1838 and was married to Sophia (last name andmarriage date unknown). He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church. "He wasvery active and took a prominent part in the cause; he was recommended bythe class to the quarterly conference, and was licensed to exhort in1845. He was appointed Deacon in 1854, and ordained in 1859, a goodfaithful Christian Man, well liked as a neighbor and preacher." He held aresidence on Dines Road, which was then called Wooley Road.
