Notes for WILLIAM STENNINGS:
Headstone on grave has death date as 1 November 1897. Death on Death Certificate issued i n Hobart district has date as 30 January 1897 in the General Hospital.

The Mercury 1st Feb 1897:
STENNING. On Saturday Jan 30th, 1897 at Hobart Willian Stenning, after a long and painful ill ness, in the 82nd year of his age. Funeral will leave his late residence 140 Harrington Stree t, on Thursday Afternoon, at 3O'clock, for Cornelian Bay Cemetry.


Convict number 5384 William Stennings was transported to Van Diemans Land for 7 years on th e Eden 2. He was tried in Surrey, St Mary Newington on 7 February 1842 for stealing wearin g apparel. William's convict record states that he was single, Protestant, could read. Stat ed offence housebreaking and stealing goods including sheets and a gown in Surrey, Dunsfold.
